Graduation

It always makes me so proud and so sad each year. Some years are worse than others. Paul was selected as one of the seniors' favorite teachers for the 5th time in a row. It makes me smile knowing how fond they are of him cause for some he is the only father they've got. I sure am going to miss my boys. I'm sure I'll find them around some on football Fridays.

Quickly a little recap on vacay...

After graduation, Paul and I hopped in my jeep and headed to the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. It was so beautiful and peaceful. We also took a day trip to Washington, D.C.

I have a new found respect for being American! More later.

On the field house

Last week there was a special called school board meeting, I was not there but after talking to several I'm attendance it's probably a good thingI wasn't.

The board was to take up several items including finalizing purchases for the field house offices, which includes baseball and football. An ice machine and cooler lids and some editing equipment. Oh and a banner.

Through out the building process, Paul and Michael and Jim have questioned the architect and saved the school approximately 15,000 on the project.

One school board member, who has been in support of the project, said that football needed to fundraise for the contents of the building.

So I would like to share a few things: 1. Helmets have to be inspected every year and many this year many were rejected. $5,000 worth of helmets were purchased by the football program. New jerseys are being purchased because having one small washer to keep them clean didn't really help matters and they were worn.
2. The football team fundraises with a program (which is sold at all home ball games including jr. High) and through tshirt and hat sale. We've sold raffle tickets on a tv in the past.
3. The football coaches have never once come to the school board like other sports and asked for anything other than a clean, safe building where the boys aren't constantly getting staph.

Sure we all disagree on things and I am all for getting the needs of each sport but to insinuate that football gets everything is a little over the top.

Spring football

Football never really sleeps and even though spring football doesn't last that long, I'm always ready to see the scrimmage. We have 32 players 9-12 grades. We played at Ridgeland High School again. Lots of new faces and several familiar ones!

Asking for prayers

One of our students and his family are in need of prayer as they have been affected by a tragic situation in our community. He is a wonderful, Christian, young man. He's a straight A student and hard working. I can't imagine the things he is feeling and going through right now.  Like all "our children," he is very special to us and he and Paul are very close.

"God is our refuge and strength, a ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with surging."
NIV Psalm 46:1-3
