Let me tell you about my best friend

I was going to do this in June but I decided it was close enough so -- The big reveal for my five followers. Who is my BFF?

With my job as the newspaper editor and Paul being a football coach, true friends come in short supply. And most of the time, Paul's work friends and coaching buddies and wives become my friends by default. So me having a friend that is mine and mine alone is something that is hard to come by.

Over the past six years, I've been burnt several times by "friends," and this isn't meant to be a pity blog post but a  hopeful one. What's my point? Friendships come from people you never expected and are a true friend is a great blessing.

My first interaction with my BFF was as I was walking to an Attala County School Board meeting and he asked me was I Coach Dees' wife? I said yes, last time I checked, and to which he asked another question, Did you know that we are related? Yes. I was feeling quite like the smarty pants and I just kept on walking. See, the back story is when Michael (yes, that Michael. Michael Ray. It's quite shocking) was teaching at Greenlee, Paul asked him if he wanted to help with football and he declined. So basically, I was done with him.

At the time principals were mandated to come to the Attala County School Board meetings and I, of course, have to go as well. This lead to lots of bonding time cause those meetings are long and lost of conversations afterwards.

I think trading smart a** comments is what started the friendship between the two of us. So last summer we got to be really good friends and our friendship is a lot like an episode of "Senfield" -- we talk a lot about nothing and we both really like to talk.

It's been a year of ups and downs for us and we've both done our share of advising and consoling. It's nice to have someone else to talk to because every once in awhile Paul needs a break and my sister is busy raising my precious niece. I can be quite exhausting.

Three years ago, if you told me that I would consider Michael to be my best friend, I probably would have laughed in your face. Laughed so hard that tears would have come streaming down my face.

However, we are a lot more alike down deep than I'd like to admit.

Without being too girly and emotional, I'll just say that Michael is the brother that I always wanted but never thought I would actually get. It's the oddest and best friendship I've ever had. :)
